Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Female jedi - parts?

Adi Gallia really seems to be your only choice.  Maybe a heavily modified Elizabeth Swann from the AWE line?  (Singapore disguise).

Customs Community and Group Projects / Kenobi LIVES!!!
« on: February 22, 2007, 08:20 PM »

Guess who showed up at my place today?  Yep, good ol' Travelling Purple Pimp Daddy Kenobi.

He smelled of cheap hooch and stale cigarettes and crashed on my couch late last night after mumbling something about "damn Malaysian prisons" and hasn't woken up since.

But he's on the move again and I'm sure more adventures will be forthcoming!

Well, I only had the chance to go to one TRU this week-end and it was the one with consistently the WORST stock (and yet, I have had one or two amazing "gold mine" experiences there, so I keep going back despite the overwhelming failure ratio.)

As expected, they had nothing.  But this time, it was literally nothing.  Zilch.  Not a single figure, tin set, battle pack, vehicle...not even the old, reliable peg warmers....

Not to be completely empty-handed, though, I did pick up two "spring action" lightsabers, which I had been considering buying for some time.  Now I have an extra....not a bad deal.

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: Fodder Alert!

Yeah, I saw all the "Golden Compass" pictures at another website...Interesting stuff...Poseability doesn't seem to high, though, as mentioned.

There's also a figure based on Nicole Kidman, but it looks pretty lousy.  Thankfully, it was listed as "pending actor approval", so hopefully Nicole will make them resculpt a better head.

I'll definitely be making a James Bond custom with that awesome Daniel Craig head.

And, assuming Hasbro ever makes a good TPM Obi Wan and the Nicole Kidman head comes out, I'll finally be able to finish my "Moulin Rouge" custom series and diorama!  :D

^Dude, what IS that figure?  Gotta post names, not just pics!!!  Is that the aforementioned biker figure or something???

Please help!

Hot damn, doesn't that guy look like Daniel Craig?  Bond customs, anyone???

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: 30AC Sith Infiltrator

For a ship that is on screen for a grand total of 10 seconds, the SI doesn't DESERVE a larger vehicle.

I'd file this under the same type of response as "That figure didn't do anything so he doesn't deserve more than 6 points of articulation" kind of answer. ;)

But that's a fair argument, I think.....Hell, I love it when ANY figure is given extra articulation, but I far prefer my Luke's, Obi Wan's, clones and stormies to have the extra goods rather than a Cantina alien.

By the same token, I'm thrilled we got "large" toys in the form of the Gunship and ARC-170 (even though those ships aren't really much more important than the Infiltrator.)

I certainly don't fault you for your opinions... :), but I think getting the SI is terrific and I never would have expected ANY toy for a ship this insignificant (yet cool-looking), so I'm pleased as punch to get it.  And that's not just because it exists at all - had they done a crappy job, I would pass.  But they didn't.  Scale aside, this looks neat and I can't wait.

As to the Falcon - do we need a resculpt?  Well, that's a fair question.  But the original Falcon was a thing of beauty back in 1978 and it still is to this day.  Are the proportions wonky?  Sure, a bit.  But it's a great TOY - not a model.  It has scads of lovely features that are great for kids......back in the day, I was amazed at how much play value this thing had and I still marvel at it.  It does literally everything the Falcon in the movie did (albeit in a silly, "kiddie" kind of way.)

Would I like to see another Falcon....?  Sure, why not?  Hasbro has come a long way, I'm sure they'd dazzle us with a modern version.  And yet, I could go my entire life without getting one and never give it a second thought.  Don't really see the urgency, despite the importance and iconic nature of the toy.  The original still holds up.

Perhaps your thinking more like an adult about these kinds of things (not a criticism, mind you, just an observation.)  As toys, though, the Falcon, Slave I (both versions), and even the Sith Infiltrator (to name just a few) more than bring the goods.  Bravo, team!

I am extremely happy with this ship.  yeah, it's small.  Is the scale any worse than the Falcon or Slave 1, though?  Awesome vehicles, both.

I am delighted we are getting this at all.  People may bitch that it's not technically a "starfighter", but it's still a one person ship.

Do we need this the size of the Queen's ship?  Hell no.  A mid-size would have been okay, but, again, it's just not nearly important enough in the scheme of things to warrant the expense and risk.

An excellet compromise by Hasbro and a very fine looking vehicle.  Can't wait!!

Hey, what a fun thread idea.....

Before I give my responses, a couple of comments about my collecting style:

I always army-build in even numbers (whenever possible - I only ever found one Gree and one Kashyyk scout so far...) for display, diorama and photonovel purposes. Having just one guard or troop around doesn't make any sense.

I usually top out at four of a kind. Anything else is superfluous for my needs, but, somehow I did end up with six Utapau clones.

For the past few years, I have also been hoarding figures like a pack rat for customizing purposes - even though I barely ever actually make any customs and haven't done anything in the past year.

I'm sure I'll buy a few extras this year for fodder, but odds are I'll never get around to using 'em....sigh.

Oh, and I never, EVER collect carded figures. They're toys, damnit! Not museum pieces. An unplayed with toy is a useless object.

Wave 1

Galactic Marine - 2 to 4 depending on availability and money at the time
Mustafar Lava Miner - None. How boring.
R2-D2 - None. I ditched all my extra R2's a few months ago. No need.
Obi-Wan Kenobi - None. ROTS version is fine.
Mace Windu - Is this the promised SA version? 1 if yes.
Airborne Trooper - probably 2
Super Battle Droid - 2
Concept Stormtrooper - None.

Wave 2 -

Rebel Honor Guard - 2 to 4 depending on avail & money. Maybe for customizing.
Han Solo - None.
Luke Skywalker - One. Possibly an extra for customizing, looks like a good genric torso.
Biggs Darklighter Pilot - 1
Death Star Trooper - 2 to 4. Maybe extras for customizing, see above.
Concept Boba Fett - None. Don't care about concept figures.

Wave 3 -

Biggs Darklighter Academy - Two. Definite custom potential here.
Darth Vader - None. Ditched extra Vaders, too. No need for more.
Luke Skywalker - Is this the vaporator one? Definitely one. Can't wait!
Jawa & LIN Droid - One. Love the droid! But I have enough other Jawas.
Stormtrooper - 4 to 6 depending on availability and money. Need a big Imperial army!
Concept Chewbacca - Possibly one. Only concept fig I'll even consider.
Elis Helrot - One for the cantina section! Figure itself is so-so.

Wave 4 -

M'iiyoom Onith - One, possibly more for customs, looks like a good generic body.
Boba Fett (Animated Debut) - None. Have enough Fetts, no need for Toon version.
Luke Jedi - Probably 1 if soft goods are removable. They look yucky!
CZ-4 - One.
Umpass-Stay - One for customs only.
Concept Darth Vader - None.

Maris Brood - Wow. Tons. Up to 4 or 5. Need to army build female Imps! Customs hopefully.
Juno Eclipse - 2. One to keep, one as potential custom fodder.
Shadow Guard - None. No real need, though I like the look.
Darth Vader (Battle Damage) - Hmm. This looks cool. Probably one.
"Samurai Jedi" - 2 or 3. Good figure, good custom potential.
"Heavy Stormtrooper #1" - None.
"Heavy Stormtrooper #2" - None.

Vintage -

Han Hoth - One.
Leia Endor - One. MAYBE Two for custom potential.
Luke Skywalker - Not crazy about the head sculpt, but I'm sure I'll get one.
Bossk - One.
IG-88 - Maybe one. Not high on my list. Depends on money at the time.
Snowtrooper - Either none or two, depending on money. I was never a huge fan of snowtroopers, I can live without this.

And let's not forget -

Sith Infiltrator - One most definitely. Love this ship, can't wait.

V-Wing - Maybe....the problem is I already have absolutely no room for additional ships in my tiny living space. Half are on display (ever available shelf and desk space!) and the other half are sadly collecting dust in a closet - this includes AOTC starfighter, Y-Wing, all my speeder bikes (and there are several), Geonosian fighter, larger scale X-Wing, AT-AT, AAT, all my small and air speeders, all my's depressing. V-Wing looks great, but I just need a bigger apartment!

So, adding it all up, assuming highest number of possible figs (and both vehicles) bought, I'm looking at the following damage for '07:

Yipes. And that's not including all the other possible figs from that secret French list.....

Damn you, Hasbro!!!  :D

Come on, guys....we KNEW this ship was going to be small (to fit into the $20 "starfighter" price range) and Hasbro ships are never, ever, ever to scale.

I don't see this as being any worse than the Falcon, the TIE's, the AT AT, Slave I....yeah, it's small, but it looks cool.  It looks like the real ship, it'll hold a Maul figure.....I'm very happy and can't wait to pick it up.

It seems like if you're complaining about scale, you're in the wrong hobby.  :)

^Agreed on all counts.  I got this set solely for Padme's potential as custom fodder - we need nice generic female bodies.

ACK!  She doesn't have a "neck hole"!!  Solid torso, pop off head with tiny hole in it.  Useless for me (since I have no dremel....even if I did, her body/neck is way too small to try to hollow out...)

Oddly, the new Pirates Elizabeth head fits perfectly, but she is stuck literally "navel gazing" if you put her nogging on there....
