The Vintage Collection / Re: Tonnika Sisters coming?
« on: April 25, 2005, 12:42 PM »
Hasbro also hinted to me a confirmation of this when I spoke with their team leader on Saturday. Though, during the Q & A they avoided the question entirely.

Yeah, during the QnA, they just went with "No Comment".

Buuuut, in private at the booth they sure did a LOT of hinting that the Tonnkia Twins may have something to do with the upcoming Distillery and U-Shaped bar pieces...  ;)

I think they set up the packaging so that the back side to chnage the battery can be opened.

Yes, the part that holds the battery DOES stick out through the back of the car so that you can remove the battery without damaging the product.

I think you can thank Steve Sansweet for that - it's the kind of tiny details that gets corrected for when you have an uber-collector helping you design the toy!

Revenge of the Sith / Re: What Hasbro really wants to do...
« on: April 25, 2005, 12:37 PM »
Like everything Hasbro says, you have to take it with a grain of salt.

You can take this 2 ways -

#1. This answer is more Hasbro BS.  On some of the answers (like the AT-TE and the Death Star questions) you definately got the impression that Hasbro was passing the buck - "Gee fans, we here at Hasbro would LOVE to give you a DS playset or an AT-TE, but the big bad retailers won't carry it.  Sorry, but it's not our fault, it's the retailers."  ::)

#2.  For some things (the U-shaped part of the bar and Cloud Car), you definately got the impression that they are both just sitting someplace finished, waiting for someone to pick it up and it really IS the retailers fault we don't have it yet.

There were a LOT of hints and verbal cues that are hard to capture in writing for QnA sessions and it causes a lot of confusion.  They give you the SAME answer for a lot of things, but that same answer doesn't always mean the same thing if you get what I'm saying.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: "Evolutions" assortment...

"5 helmets for 3 different clones!" Um...what does that mean?

I believe Jeff said there were multiple helmets packed in to the figure box ala the AT-TE Gunner Figure

You can see them barely in my crappy Hasbro QnA picture:

The Ep2 Yellow Clone comes with a regular helmet and a pilot helmet.
The Ep3 Clone Commander comes with a regular helmet and the AT-TE Gunner attachment.
The Sandtrooper just comes with his helmet.

At first, Hasbro was saying that the Sandtrooper WOULD have a removable helmet, but then later in the day they were saying he WOULDN'T have one.    :-\

So, I guess really it's only 4 helmets for the 2 clones if the Sandtrooper is not slated for a removable helmet.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Hasbro to Offer Direct Sales?
« on: April 24, 2005, 12:36 AM »
A Hasbro Direct sales store for SW is DEFINATELY coming...

details soon.

Well that's just great news, I could've gotten it online and wouldn't have to make Vator wait in line. ::)

JediMAC, or anyone else in line, was it REALLY that long, or are we overexagerating a bit?

I waited in line for 5 hours on Thursday for Vader, Jared and a few others had a 9 hour wait.  The average wait time for the C3 Vader has been around 6 hours.   >:(

According to the RS Q&A posting the following is TRUE!!!!

The Darth Vader Celebration III figure will be available online after the show

As for on-line sales, be careful - Hasbro said they will try to do it, but it would be VERY limited quantity and there would be no guarantee on condition of the figures.  I think RS may have been reading into the comment a bit too much...  :(

Jeff just called me, these I guess are AMAZING

Super Articulated galore! "Even Jesse James was happy"

I guess they include Super Articulated Maul, Clone Troopers, a New Sandtrooper, Anakin Episode II and III, Dooku, Emperor

Jeff was absolutely GUSHING

Indeed they are amazing...

Ball joints all over the place and 5 helmets for 3 different clones!

The Sandtrooper is a step above and beyond the vOTC Stormtrooper.

Amazing! :)

I don't usually get into the whole "food promo" area of collecting, but when one of the gals at my office offered this to me for FREE (thanks to her husband the Grocery Manager), I couldn't refuse!  :)

It's the Frito-Lay RotS/Vader display, fresh from the box!  I just got done assembling it and it is really cool.  You can kinda see the pictures from all parts of the saga (OT too!) in the back plate/sections.

Vader stands about 6ft high, the back sections are about 8ft high.  Now I've just got to find a place for it in the SW Room!  ;)

Any updates on how exactly that stupid GG bust is getting distributed?  I'm hoping with my whole group from Seattle, I can snag my one that I want....but if it's a damn lottery again, it's anyone's guess.

I sent out a few e-mails this weekend to my contacts asking if the min-bust would be "first-come, first serve" or "raffle", but the best I was able to come up with is:

"The Star Wars Celebration III Exclusive Sandtrooper Corporal mini bust will
be available to purchase in a similar manner as our past conventions
exclusives.  The quantity sold at the show will be sold in accordance with
the convention's policies.  Currently, this involves daily allocation and
the implementation of a Fastpass system should lines demand it."

That's about as specific as GG wants to be at the moment unfortunately.  They've been burned at Cons before, so they are keeping the "How To" info on this one close to the vest until the day of is sounds like...

Guess we just make the mad dash for the GG booth at the start of each day until we get one...  :-\

Upon closer inspection, I'm not thinking the ships may be all new as well...  They seem bigger than the original MM ships.  Maybe they're even from the same molds as WM's Titanium series?  I have no idea.  Anyone know?

I heard they were molded using the larger "X-Ray" versions of MM, like these.

The X-Ray ships were a bit larger than the standard MMs were.  I don't own them to compare for ya, but that is the info I last heard from Target...

Celebration III: Indianapolis / Re: Autograph Guest List C3
« on: April 18, 2005, 11:22 AM »
Official Pix is offering the Celebration 3 Ultimate Autograph Set for those who have deep wallets.

$2160.00  :o

There is no way I'd EVER spend that much money on shiny pictures with scribbling on them, especially considering you know who would end up with the cash in the end.   ::)

Just an interesting tidbit I picked up today from the Hasbro First Quarter webcast on financials...

"Revenues in the U.S. Toys segment were $166.5 million for the quarter compared to $152.4 million a year ago, reflecting the initial shipment of STAR WARS products in advance of the May 19th movie release. The segment reported operating profit of $7.9 million for the quarter compared to $1.0 million last year. "

Need more proof that the toys sell better in a movie year?   :o

So, basically the initial store ordering for RotS figures/toys helped Hasbro jump waaaay up from last year.  That 1 million for Q1 2004 was mainly stores ordering in the Saga 2004 stuff (no OTC until 2nd Q 2004).

I guess jamming 32+ figures into a single toy launch IS a good thing to do... $$$.

Now of course, the retail stores have to actually SELL all that $7.9 million worth of product or Hasbro will end up with a 3rd Q 2005 buy-back cost.   ::)
